Alot of people have been asking me what paint I have been using throughout the project. I don’t feel like I’ve been using anything particularly special, but with some research, these are what I chose. Some of these have individual labels on them with green tape. That’s because many of them look almost the same, and I don’t want to spend my time reading the fine print every time I use one.

1. Dupli-Color Acrylic Enamel Black (also pictured Krylon "Can-Gun")
2. Dupli-Color Acrylic Enamel Clear Coat
3. Dupli-Color Ceramic High Heat Engine Enamel (500°).
4. Dupli-Color Self-Etching Primer (Green)
5. Dupli-Color Ceramic High Heat Engine Primer (500°).
6. Tal-Strip Paint Remover (extra strength). Any aircraft stripper is great too.
7. Dupli-Color Prep Spray (a must for effectively removing dirt, grease, and wax)
8. Ace Epoxy Appliance Paint (black). I used this in leu of re-powder coating my center stand. It’s a tough, chemical resistant epoxy paint.

There are also a few cleaning supplies that help with the prep process. Such as the 3M Automotive Masking Tape, Scotch-Brite™ General Purpose Hand Pad 7447 (MUST HAVE), misc grades of sandpaper ranging from 180-1200, and you can’t have enough brass wire brushes. Soft enough to use on aluminum, but strong enough to get the job done.

Center Stand Painted

Center Stand Painted
The center stand was painted with an black epoxy appliance paint, per recommendation. Its a tough paint that’s resistant to wear and chemicals. Perfect temporary solution for powder coating.

There was quite a bit of rust and chipping before hand. Lots of little nooks (where brackets connect to the "U" shaped legs) that were just filling up with rust. Took quite a while to get this thing stripped and cleaned up. The paint has since dried and retained a more even smoother finish. Though there is still a very, very slight grain to it.

The metal and welds are pretty gnarly. I kinda wish I would have sanded down some of the little misc. imperfections throughout the metal work. But oh well, that’s how it was originally. I’m curious to see how this paint holds up.
